Shift was 1 of 5 teams selected from 50 international applicants to produce concepts for the design of a neighbourhood park in the Morningside neighbourhood of Detroit. As the first project within the City's new ‘Give a Park, Get a Park' program, Detroit was looking for thought leaders and designers able to inspire hope within the community. Our project Memories and Daydreams recalls the houses which used to occupy the site, through the creation of rooms for program activities. Elements throughout such as ‘front porch seating' and property line demarcation with weathering steel bands serve to reinforce the previous use of the site.
The circular forms allow for future addition or subtraction of program without losing the conceptual identity of the project. Shift participated in a public engagement day, produced concepts, meeting 3 interim City deadlines and presented the final project to the community and City leaders.
