Douglas Park

Fort Erie, Ontario

SHIFT led the public consultation process, developed the master plan, completed detailed design and oversaw construction of the 1.6-hectare Douglas Park. The master plan proposed a variety of recreation opportunities, both passive and active for a wide spectrum of the population, and the final concept centred around a hub of activity at the centre of the park, supported by parking and a new washroom building.

The final design revitalized the park space which now includes large turf areas and berms that allow for open ended programming as well as a new soccer pitch surrounded by a walking loop. A practice basketball court with the addition of unique line painting creates an active and inclusive space, and a separate pickleball court was installed to address the community’s desire for one.

The central area features a shade structure, playground, and splashpad that help to anchor the gathering space and draw people into the centre of the park. The custom designed, universal washroom building ensures that Douglas Park is fully accessible to all users.
